Homeowners Insurance-Flood Insurance

The hurricane season is officially upon us and the experts are predicting that this could be the most active one on record. According to Carrie Coolidge of the Daily Finance, homeowner’s and business owners are bracing for the worst, especially in those areas prone for hurricane related damage. Coolidge reports that the Tropical Meterology Project at Colorado State University is predicting 10 storms with 5 of those being major.

Insurance companies have been preparing for the worst also and most companies have sufficient cash reserves to pay for the expected surge in claims. Unfortunately, as we said in an earlier post, Congress has allowed the Flood Insurance program to lapse. Hopefully they will give this issue priority when they return to Washington.

We recommend that our clients review their Homeowner’s Insurance Policies to determine that adequate coverage is provided. Clients should also consider adding Flood Insurance once the program is reinstated. Contact us for a policy review or for more information.
