CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM SINGS

This story was sent to me and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to share it with everyone.  I hope you find meaning in the words….

“One day I had lunch with some friends.  Jim, a short, balding golfer type
about 80 years old, came along with them—all in all, a pleasant bunch.
When the menus were presented, we ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups,
except for Jim who said, “Ice Cream, please.  Two scoops, chocolate.
I wasn’t sure my ears heard right, and the others were aghast.

“Along with heated apple pie,” Jim added, completely unabashed.

We tried to act quite nonchalant, as if people did this all the time..
But when our orders were brought out, I didn’t enjoy mine.

I couldn’t take my eyes off Jim as his pie a-la-mode went down.  The other
guys couldn’t believe it.  They ate their lunches silently and grinned.

The next time I went out to eat, I called and invited Jim.
I lunched on white meat tuna. He ordered a parfait.

I  smiled.  He asked if he amused me.

I  answered, “Yes, you do, but also you confuse me.  How come you order
rich desserts, while I feel I must be sensible?”

He laughed and said, “I’m tasting all that is possible.  I try to eat the
food I need, and do the things I should.  But life’s so short, my friend,
I hate missing out on something good.  This year I realized how old I was.
(He grinned.)  I haven’t been this old before.”

“So, before I die, I’ve got to try those things that for years I had
ignored.  I haven’t smelled all the flowers yet.  There are too many trout
streams I haven’t fished. There’s more fudge sundaes to wolf down and
kites to be flown overhead.  There are too many golf courses I haven’t
played.  I’ve not laughed at all the jokes.  I’ve missed alot of sporting
events and potato chips and cokes.

“I want to wade again in water and feel ocean spray on my face.  I want to
sit in a country church once more and thank God for His
grace.  I want peanut butter every day spread on my morning toast.  I
want un-timed long distance calls to the folks I love the most.

“I haven’t cried at all the movies yet, or walked in the morning rain. I
need to feel wind on my face. I want to be in love again.
So, if I choose to have dessert, instead of having dinner, then should I
die before night fall, I’d say I died a winner, because I missed out on
nothing.  I filled my heart’s desire. I had that final chocolate mousse
before my life expired..”

With that, I called the waitress over.. “I’ve changed my mind,” I said. “I
want what he is having, only add some more whipped cream!”

Automobile Insurance – Thefts

Harold Britt

The other day, your friendly insurance agent became the victim of crime when  the license plate on my car was switched for an expired one.  The theft would probably have gone undetected until a police officer spotted the expired plate, except it was not placed on the car properly.

According to our local police,  the expired plate was also reported as out of service, but had previously be on a vehicle, the same type and year model as mine.  A new trend, it would seem in the growing problem of automobile related thefts.

I did a little research and discovered that thieves are going after components and parts now as they are easier than stealing the entire vehicle.  There was a recent rash of thefts locally of catalytic converters and now it is parts such as chrome rims and even the lowly roof rack that are being stolen.  Dash mounted gps units and radar detectors are prime targets for the smash and grab thefts as well as unsecured cell phones and pda’s.  Nationally over 75,000 airbags are stolen annually and those items are expensive to replace.  The new xenon headlights are also an item that thieves can take quickly.

Old fashion thefts are also making a comeback.  Odometer frauds and car cloning are on the rise.  (Car cloning is where thieves steal several  same make and model vehicles and then alter the Vehicle Identification Number with one copied from a similiar vehicle for sale, usually at a dealership.)  Carjackings are still a problem in many areas and nationally a car is stolen every 33 seconds according to the FBI.  The South leads the way there with 37.8 percent of the total reported thefts in 2008.

Here is a list of the most stolen vehicles:

Rank / Year / Make / Model

1. 1994 Honda Accord
2. 1995 Honda Civic
3. 1989 Toyota Camry
4. 1997 Ford F-150 Pickup
5. 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup
6. 2000 Dodge Caravan
7. 1996 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee
8. 1994 Acura Integra
9. 1999 Ford Taurus
10. 2002 Ford Explorer

June 14-US Flag Day

Our flag carries American ideas, American history and American feelings. It is not a painted rag. It is a whole national history. It is the Constitution. It is the Government. It is the emblem of the sovereignty of the people. It is the NATION.-Henry Ward Beecher, 1861
