Automobile Insurance for Golf Carts

LSV

It sounds like a good idea; using the golf cart or mo-ped to run errands around town. But, just how safe are these LSV’s (Low Speed Vehicles)? The attached article points out that LSV’s were intended for use in gated communities or neighborhood streets and are not safe for highway use, including our downtown streets.

In addition, many LSV operators are unaware that their homeowner’s insurance does not provide coverage away from their residence premise and so do not have liability insurance. These folks are exposing themselves (and us) to catastrophic losses should an accident occur.

If you plan to use your LSV away from your residence, you should contact our office to determine the coverage you need. Just because the LSV doesn’t require a license or registration, doen’t mean that there isn’t a need for insurance.

Classic Car Insurance

Our agency provides coverage for more than your family sedan. We also insure motorcycles, classic cars, muscle cars, antique automobiles and military type vehicles. We just returned from the Oakboro (NC) Cruise In, a monthly event held on main street and featuring hundreds of vehicles lovingly restored and maintained by their owners. My son, Robert, shot the photos of just a few using his cellphone camera.

Auto insurance changes in NC

Effective Jan. 01, 2009, the State of North Carolina has revised the law concerning Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage. This coverage is now mandatory. In addition, the coverage limits must match the Liability Bodily Injury and Property Damage Coverage on the policy. As before, if you only carry minimum limits, underinsured motorist coverage is not available.

I never recommend that my clients carry minimum limits of insurance. With the high cost of medical care you may find that you have a coverage gap if you are at fault in an accident. That’s when the lawsuits start arriving and you do not want that to happen. I recommend the highest limits available and then a personal umbrella above those limits. The cost of these policies are much less expensive than the cost of a lawsuit. And with those higher limits of Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage you have provided protection for your self and your passengers in the event of a not at fault accident. Either way you win!
